about

Hi!

Welcome to Andrea’s Apple a Day!

I’m andrea, a 23yr old recent graduate living in Nottingham with my cat Pepper, trying to figure out what I want to do with my life.

This blog is an outlet for my passion of food, health and wellness. I strive to enjoy an active life whilst maintaining a happy balance.

From cooking tips to stress-relief, I hope this can be a place where likeminded individuals can share ideas and tips.  Ultimately I hope to inspire others with this passion. (You can read more about my blogging story and the inception of this blog here.)

I started this blog to track my journey as I trained for my first half marathon, which I completed on 30/9/2012! This was something I have wanted to do for so long, and am so proud of myself for doing it.  Aside from running, I also love strength training and yoga, and find these activities compliment one another great.

It hasn't always been this way. Despite an active childhood, my teens were very unhealthy years. I rekindled my love for endorphins in attempt to rid myself of some of these bad habits and in attempt to rejuvenate my mental health.

Working out helps me on so many levels.  It elevates my mood, increases my energy, makes me feel strong, gives me confidence, it de-stresses and calms me, it helps me sleep better and it increases my self-worth. Without it, I just feel 'ugh'.

Running for me is the thing I enjoy most. I can't even put my relationship with it into words. For me, running isn't for weight loss or body-image, it is purely to sort my brain out and nurture the peace I feel with myself. Its time for me. It helps me love myself. It keeps me positive. It motivates me to live life to the fullest. It makes me into a better person. It strengthens the relationship between me and my body by connecting my body, mind and spirit.

I have a long, 'complicated' history with food, but have finally found my grove and am currently in a place where I feel happy, content and satisfied with my eating habits. I believe eating real, nourishing ‘whole’ foods is the optimum way to maintain mental and physical health.

Restrictive diets, calorie counting and processed‘diet’ food are not livable. I still sometimes struggle and slip into unhealthy thoughts, and this blog is a way to remind myself what makes me feel best to maintain perspective on my life.

I see everything as connected in my pursuit of a happy life. I believe everything relates and impacts on the different aspects of my emotional, physical and mental health. I see the manifestation of unhealthy lifestyle habits as a reflection of other areas of life that are unsatisfying.

For me, an investment in wellness is the most successful way to live a happy, satisfied life.  The importance of balance means this blog will also stray from typical 'healthy living' subjects and include other interests of mine, such as travelling, reading, style, home improvements and organising, basically things that make me happy. You'll might also find lot of random musings that bounce around inside my head once I feel comfortable to open up more.
